    About This Service

Private Power Pole Supply & Installation

A private power pole is a pole located on private property that carries the overhead service mains from the network pole to your premises. Unlike the network pole on the street — which is owned and maintained by Ausgrid or Endeavour Energy — the private pole is your responsibility as the property owner. This includes the pole itself, stay wires, cross arms, and the overhead conductors running from it to your building.

Timber private poles have a typical lifespan of 25 to 40 years. Termites, ground rot, storm damage, and general weathering cause poles to lean, crack, or fail entirely. Many properties in Western Sydney, the Hills District, and outer suburbs still have original timber poles from when the property was first connected — and those poles are now approaching or past end of life. A failed private pole means loss of supply until replacement is completed.

Our private pole service covers the full scope: site assessment, DNSP works application, pole supply (treated hardwood or concrete to DNSP specifications), installation including hole boring, overhead conductor re-stringing, inspection, and certification. You don't need to source the pole separately or coordinate multiple contractors.

    How We Work

    Private Power Pole Installation Process

    1

    Site Assessment

We inspect the existing pole condition or assess a new pole location, checking clearances, stay wire requirements, and DNSP specifications.

    2

    DNSP Application

We submit a works application to Ausgrid or Endeavour Energy for approval before any pole installation or replacement begins.

    3

    Pole Supply

We supply a treated hardwood or concrete pole to DNSP specifications — the correct height, class, and treatment for your location and load requirements.

    4

    Installation

The old pole is removed if replacing, the new pole is bored and installed, stay wires fitted, and overhead conductors re-strung and terminated.

    5

    Inspection & Certification

Works are inspected, a certificate of compliance is issued, and the DNSP is notified to confirm the installation meets network requirements.

    Common Scenarios

When Do You Need a Private Power Pole?

    01

Existing timber pole showing rot, termite damage or lean

Visible decay at ground level, termite galleries, or a noticeable lean are clear signs a private pole is approaching failure and needs replacement.

    02

Pole failed Ausgrid or Endeavour Energy inspection

Network patrols inspect private poles and issue defect notices when condition falls below minimum standards — requiring replacement within the notice timeframe.

    03

New property requiring overhead connection via private pole

Acreage properties, semi-rural blocks, and long driveways often require a private pole to carry the service mains from the street to the dwelling.

    04

Storm damage to existing pole or stay wires

Summer storms can snap poles, pull stay wires from the ground, or damage cross arms — requiring emergency replacement to restore supply.

    05

Relocation of pole due to driveway or building works

New driveways, extensions, or landscaping may require relocating the private pole to maintain clearances and access.
