Metering for New Builds

Metering for new builds involves installing the electricity meter, creating the National Metering Identifier (NMI) with AEMO, and registering the premises with the customer's chosen energy retailer so billing can commence from the day of energisation. For a new premises, this process also involves coordinating with Ausgrid or Endeavour Energy for the metering installation appointment, selecting the correct meter type for the premises (single phase or three phase, accumulation or interval), and ensuring the meter is configured correctly for any solar system if one is being installed. As an accredited metering coordinator, Sedgman manages the full metering process — not just the physical installation.

Metering for new builds is required across all of Sydney's active development areas. Greenfield residential estates in the city's growth corridors — Marsden Park, Box Hill, Oran Park, and Gledswood Hills — require NMI creation and meter installation for every new dwelling before occupation. New strata buildings in Parramatta, Macquarie Park, and Chatswood require individual NMIs for each lot plus common area metering. New commercial premises require metering configured for the correct tariff class and, increasingly, with solar metering capability from day one. We coordinate directly with Ausgrid, Endeavour Energy, and the customer's retailer to ensure every new build is billing-ready at energisation.
